    Carol Ann Smith, 62, of Lafayette, La., a native of Madison, Ind., died at 4:33 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, La. Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette, La. is in charge of funeral arrangements.
    Prior to her retirement, Ms. Smith was employed as an attorney with Roy, Bivins, Judice, Roberts & Wartelle Law Firm. She received her bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. She was previously the assistand dean at University of Illinois Law School in Urbana, Champaign. Throughout her career, Ms. Smith received several awards in journalism. She also worked at the USL Alumni House, now ULL. She worked on the staff of Olney Daily Mail, the Journal Gazette in Mattoon and News Gazette in Champaign. She loved to sing, listen to music and was an avid reader. She was a former president of Friends of the Library in Lafayette, La.
    Ms. Smith is survived by her mother, Elizabeth M. Smith; two brothers, Norman Ray Smith and his wife, Janice, and Robert Wayne Smith and his wife, Barbara G.; and two nieces, one nephew and two great-nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Everett T. Smith.

    Everett T. Smith, 69, a resident of 112 S. Mill Street, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning at the family residence.
    Mr. Smith was a native of Indiana and was born at Decker, the son of George W. Smith and Ena Godfrey Smith. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Vogelgesong on May 31, 1941.
    He was a foreman for 23 years for the O'Connor Construction Company, which built the present Route 50. He had also worked on many other construction projects in this area.
    Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, and the following children: Wayne Smith, a student at Notre Dame Academy at New Orleans, La., Miss Carol Smith, a law student at the University of Illinois in Champaign and Norman Smith of Lafayette, La. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Noble Wright of Vincennes, Ind.
    Graveside rites will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Crest Haven Memorial Park
    with the Rev. R. E. Dowden officiating.
    Friends may call at the Summers-Rainey Funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

    There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Crest Haven Cemetery in rural Claremont with Rev. Father Jerry Wirth officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Cemetery. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Smith was born August 9, 1920, in Lawrenceburg, Ind., the daughter of Frank and Margaret Carrie (Zinser) Vogelsang. She married Everett Smith, and he preceded her in death.

    She loved all her children and will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

    Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Smith and his wife, Barbara, of Cantonville, Md.; son, Norman Ray Smith and his wife, Jayne, of Tomball, Texas.; three grandchildren, Tim Smith, Elise Stubbe and her husband, Justin, and Elizabeth Maxey and her husband, Dave; and three great-grandchildren, Adam Bowling, Cole Bowling and Milaan Smith.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, two sisters and one brother.

    Mrs. Elizabeth Sebastian Zinser, mother of Mrs. Frank Vogelgesang of this city passed away at the home of her son, Martin Zinser at New Alsace last Saturday at the age of 76.
    Mrs. Zinser was a native of Germany but came to America with her parents at the age of seventeen years and since that time made her home at New Alsace, where she was well known and loved by all.
    She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Vogelgesang and four sons, Martin, Matt Zinser of Defiance, O., Joe of Wyoming, O., Louis of Reading, O., and a number of grandchildren.
    Her husband died a year ago last February. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Church, New Alsace, Monday by Rev. Henry Verst. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery.
