      Henry Alfred Cumberbatch (British consul in Smyrna 1896-1908) ismentioned in the memoirs of the famous English traveller and writerGertrude Bell, whose relevant section mentioning her being hosted by him and his wife in 1907 on her expedition to a Hittite monument in the hinterland of Anatolia. On April 5-7 she travelled to Nif.Gertrude's letters and diaries are online at:http://www.gerty.ncl.ac.uk- search for Cumberbatch; "Friday Ap 5. [5April 1907] Off at 8.15 with the Cumberbatches and drove to Nif[Kemalpasa]... The road very bad. It was being repaired and we had frequently to drive into the surrounding country when we as frequently stuck in the mud."
