Weldon grew up in Logan, Utah, then Firth, Idaho, graduating from Firth High in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, then served an LDS mission in the North Central States.

After retiring, Weldon and Barbara taught English to college students in Jilin, China, served a mission in West Virginia, and served in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, the Salt Lake Area Food Banks, the Guadalupe Center, and the Salt Lake City Center Mission.

In May 2000, Barbara passed away. Weldon later met and married Utanah Drumm in December 2002. Shortly after, Weldon and Utanah served a mission in Connecticut and a service mission at the Sandy Bishop's Storehouse; after their mission, they lived in Utah until his death.
