  given name also spelled Almirah Daughter of James Abbott and Mary Jane Taylor. Sister of Martha and Alexander; all orphaned about 1882. As a young girl, Ella was cared for by Capt. Daniel J. Thurber and his wife, Phebe A. Wood, of Patchogue, L.I. - Ella lovingly called them her uncle and aunt. It was while working in her aunts tea room on Long Island one summer that Ella met future husband, Lewis FRANK Gordon. They married at the Thurber home on Pearl St. in Patchogue on 25 Nov 1896, then settled in Bridgeport, CT where they had 4 sons: CHARLES Herbert Gordon, Abbott FRANK Gordon, William CLIFFORD Gordon, and Rev. RAYMOND Grant Gordon. The family then moved to Milford, CT where daughter, Lavinia EUNICE Gordon, was born. Ella appears to have been well-loved by her family and friends. She died in 1923, following complications after minor surgery. She was 45 years old.
