MRS SUSAN E BARBER
Mrs Susan Elizabeth Barber, aged 93, widow of the late Charles H Barber, died September 27 at the home of her daughter, Mrs Addie Houghton of Canal street, Center Moriches following a short illness.
Born in Brookhaven on July 16, 1853, she was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs David Hulse.
Funeral services were held at the Houghton residence on Sunday at 2 pm with the Rev Harold L Beaumont, pastor of the Center Moriches Methodist church, officiating. Interment followed at Mt Pleasant Cemetery Center Moriches. Pallbearers included Mrs Barber's two grandsons, Vernon and William Hawkins of East Moriches, and her grandson-in-law, William Steigler of Eastport; also Lewis Bowditch of Center Moriches, a close friend of the family.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Hougton, and Mrs Nellie Baumes of New York; and a son Ernest L Barber of Center Moriches; three grandchildren, Mrs Sidney V Hawkins of East Moriches, Miss Margaret Baumes and Mrs Harry MacDonald of New York; four great-grandchildren, Mrs Elsie Hawkins Steigler of Eastport, Vernon and William Hawkins of East Moriches, and Charles Thiesen who is overseas with the United States Army. Also three great-great-grandchildren survive.
