Died at Iowa Odd Fellows Home
Meryl Darlene R. Rogers, 97, formerly of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 at the Iowa Odd Fellows Home, Mason City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 1:30 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Tom Healey officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service. There will be an inurnment at the Clear Lake Cemetery at noon on Thursday for family and friends. Memorials may be given
to the Darlene R. Rogers Memorial Fund.
Darlene was born in Iowa City, Iowa on Nov. 15, 1908, the daughter of Meta Pommerening of Algona, Iowa. As an infant she was adopted by Andrew J. and Estella (Miller) Rice of Floyd Township, Iowa. Darlene graduated from Clear
Lake High School in 1928, attended Hamilton Business School and worked at the Peoples Gas and Electric for 12 years. On Sept. 29, 1940, she married Dr. Kingsley R. Rogers in Clear Lake. Darlene was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekahs, a member of the Crescent Club and the First Congregational Church, all of Clear Lake.
Darlene is survived by two sons, Richard R. Rogers of Clear Lake and John D. (June) Rogers of Burlington, Iowa, and one daughter, Mary (Gary) Marshall of Conoga Park, Calif. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Barbara Marshall Curtiss and her husband, Jim, Darcy Marshall, JoAnn Marshall, Sue Rogers Foster and her husband, Robert, Stephen (Jennifer) Rogers, Kathrine Rogers, Janette Rogers and Jason (Rebecca) Rogers, six great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother; adoptive parents; husband; half-sister, Virginia (Amish) Herman; adoptive brothers, Earl, Ray and Elmer Rice; adoptive sisters, Adelaide Wallace and Anna Potter and granddaughter, Sandra Marshall Rebbeck.
