    James Howard Rogers, age 73, of El Dorado Springs, was born on Aug. 2, 1931, to Mitchell Rogers and Azel Mae Propes Rogers in Henderson, Texas. He passed away on July 12, 2005, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs.
    He married Bernadette Green on Aug. 25, 1956, in Washington, D.C.
    Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947. He served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Tarawa during the Korean Conflict. After serving for nine years, he was honorably discharged in 1956. he then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he received training in electronics as a guided missile technician. Jim retired in 1968. He remained in the reserve service from 1968 until 1978.
    Jim then worked at the Nevada State Hospital for 18 months as a psychiatric aide. He decided to become an registered nurse and he graduated from Missouri Southern College in Joplin in 1973. he returned to the State Hospital as an registered nurse for 16.5 years. He concluded his nursing career at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada.
    He is survived by his wife, Brenadette, of Nevada; his sons, Michael, of Linwood, N.C.; Mark, of El Dorado Springs; Dan, of El Dorado Springs; Father Joel, of Glasgow, Ky., and John, of Bradner, Ohio; his daughters, Angela Holly, of Red Oak, Okla., Paula Ast, of Conway Springs, Kan., Mary Rhoades, of Vinita, Okla., Theresa Miller, of Peculiar, Mo., Stephanie Cartwright, of El Dorado Springs, Dolores Cartwright, of El Dorado Springs, and Regina Hutman, of Belton, Mo.
    Also surviving are 45 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his niece, Shirley Mitchell, of Arcola, Mo.; and nephew, Edward Kephart, of Arcola, Mo.
    Jim was preceded in death by his father, Mitchell Rogers; his mother, Azel Mae Rogers Stafford; his brother, Billy Gene; and sister, Dovie Leotis Kephart; and grandson, Peter Marcus.
    Funeral mass was held on Friday, July 15, at 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Interment was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Nevada, under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs. Pallbearers were Tom Bryant, Jim Mowry, Mark Rosser, Tom Ast, Luke Mitchell, and Mark White. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Ast, Steve Rhoades, Andy Schrag, Harold Day, Rob Miller, Bob Cartwright, Scan Hutman, Ron Cartwright and Ellis Holly.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Barone Care Center of Nevada, or the Fathers of Mercy at Glasgow, Ky.
