Inscription:He served his country faithfully in the Revolution and was a captive among the Indians for 3 years. He lived a quiet and peaceful life, was happy and resigned in death.

He was a farmer at Nassakeag, NY, and signed the Association during the
Revolution. His funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Zachariah Greene of
Revolutionary War fame.

He was both a farmer and a sea captain. On one voyage, he came upon an
abandonded ship, which he boarded with his crew to see what could be salvaged.
They found a large chest filled with so much gold and other valuables that, even
after the crew were given their proper share, Capt. Eleazer had enough remaining
to buy each of his sons large farms, including the one which came to be known as
the Hawkins-Mount Homestead.
He was also active in civic affairs, serving for many years as one of seven
Trustees of the Town of Brookhaven.

Eleazer married Sarah Owen 1711. Sarah (daughter of George Owen, Junior) was born 20 Sep 1690, of Stony Brook, Suffolk, New York, United States; died 23 Apr 1768, Stony Brook, Suffolk, New York, United States; was buried , Setauket Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Setauket, Suffolk, New York, United States. Setauket was originally founded as Ashford "... probably begun in the spring of 1655, although it may have been earlier since its origin is enveloped in obsurity."

"The earliest reference to him ... Dec. 8, 1663 .... From this fact he must have been living in Ashford or Setauket for some time but his name does not appear on the earliest lists of inhabitants."

"His home was opposite the intersection of what are now called Christian and Bay Avenues, a grove of trees marking the spot."
