Initiatory and endowment proxy, and sealing proxy, same person.

Several of the notes of condolence sent to his widow after his death described him, aptly, as "a gentleman and a gentle man."

Cremated; remains kept in family niche at Rosehill Cemetary and Crematory, Route 25, Linden, NJ.

Married once before marrying Margaret. Name of lady unknown. Told me, his son Jim, that after three days of marriage he realized he was thinking only of Margaret -- my mother. Divorced first wife. No dates of marriage or divorce known. However, I suspect they were married in or near New York City, in about 1944.

He reported for Navy boot camp in November of 1943. He told me he had to decide between two women, and figured he'd be happier with the one who loved him best. This first bride visited him in Newport News, where he went for training, and remained while they processed the paperwork to commission him. He was a degreed engineer, so they made him an officer. Since this lady visited him, he decided she loved him more, and married her.

Frederick married Margaret Roberta Price 6 Sep 1947, Shelter Island, Suffolk, New York, United States. Margaret (daughter of Harold Woodford Price and Jessie Philomena Jacques) was born 23 Jun 1916, Greenport, Suffolk, New York, United States; died 9 Feb 1997, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Margaret Roberta Price was born 23 Jun 1916, Greenport, Suffolk, New York, United States (daughter of Harold Woodford Price and Jessie Philomena Jacques); died 9 Feb 1997, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States.

    Notes:

My mother's name was given, in different documents, as Alberta, Roberta, Ruberta, and Rubertha. Roberta was the name intended by her parents, and the name she always claimed as her own.

Mom was not buried, but creamated. Do not have a date. Her remains were entered in the family niche after we held the memorial service on 19 July 1997. Ashes put in Rosehill Crematory and Cemetery,
Route 25, Linden, NJ, with the ashes of her son, Richard, her husband, and he parents-in-law.

Baptismal proxy was Alexa Marie Droste, granddaughter. Baptism performed by James Frederick Droste, son. This happened during Alexa's second branch youth temple trip.

Proxy for initiatory and endowment was Mary Dellie Williamson Droste, daughter-in-law. When Mary went into the initiatory area, her eyes were immediately filled with tears, and the initiatory workers' eyes were similarly
filled. At the end, one of the sisters noted "that was a special experience." Mary was convinced that Margaret accepted at least some of the work done for her in the temple that day. When I was going thru for Frederick
Robert -- Margaret's husband, it occured to me that she, Margaret, wanted very much to be sealed to Richard, her son who died in childhood. She was separated from him for forty four years, and fiercely wanted to avoid any further separation. I had explained, years ago, that someone would need to be his mother in the resurrection, because he never developed beyond 22 months of age, and the day she died I knew she was spending the whole day without letting him go. I don't know how much reservation there might be in
her mind about accepting the work done for her in the temple, but she has accepted some. For sure she accepted being with her lost baby.

  1. 8.  Frederick Christian Droste was born 5 Mar 1888, Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States; died 5 Jan 1970, Ridgewood, Bergen, New Jersey, United States; was buried 8 Jan 1970, Ridgewood, Bergen, New Jersey, United States.

    Notes:

Burial information, as given, is when he was cremated. Cremation was done under the direction of CC Van Emburgh, Inc, the funeral home in Ridgewood. It was done at Cedar Lawn Crematory in Paterson, NJ, and his remains went to the family niche in Rosehill Crematory and Cemetary, Route 25, Linden, NJ.

Death certificate was signed by Dr Cornelius F Ivory, 381 Spring Ave, Ridgewood, New Jersey. Dr Ivory had been the family's physician since the mid 1950s.

Named for both his parents. His father was called Fred, and his mother was Christina.

Lived with his son and daughter-in-law for the last 15 years of his life.

Called Uncle Fritz by his grand niece, Elanore.

According to the original marriage certificate, the witnesses to the marriage were Clara Lindberg, his wife's sister, and J. Henry (or Harry) Walpern. The handwriting is not clear. Dr Jacob W. Lorh, pastor of the German Evangelican Church (possibly Leherwerhorn St), Brooklyn, NY, performed the marriage. I have made the best interpretation of the handwriting that I could, but spellings could be quite different from what I've typed. The envelope says "Certificate of Marriage for Mr. & Mrs. Frederick C. Droste (Lindberg)."

name in Hannover, Prussia, Germany was Dröste

Frederick married Marie Theresa Lindberg 27 Oct 1915, Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States. Marie was born 11 Nov 1889, Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States; died 21 Oct 1954, Virginia Beach, , Virginia, United States. [Group Sheet]

  2. 9.  Marie Theresa Lindberg was born 11 Nov 1889, Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States; died 21 Oct 1954, Virginia Beach, , Virginia, United States.

    Notes:

Called "Dae" -- pronounced like [day] -- by everyone including her son. She told him at about age 10 or 11 that she wanted him to call her Dae instead of mom. Dae comes from her sister, Clara, who was younger.
Clara as a baby couldn't say Theresa, and so called her Dae. She was never known as Marie.

Had ricketts (spelling?) when she was a child. Her mother took her for a daily ride on the Staten Island ferry daily when she was a baby. Ricketts is a Vitamin D deficiency, which wasn't known at the time. Her mother was told that fresh air and sunshine would do her good, so they went on the ferry. It must have been difficult to set aside time every day of the week to ride the ferry in both directions.

Fell in front of a store and broke her hip, which started the decline in her health ending in her death. The store sent someone around to offer her $50.00, which was quite a chunk of money at the time, to compensate for her injury. The doctor she saw for this injury examined her, and commented that she must never have been able to have children. She replied that she had one. "How long did he live?" the doctor asked. "He drove me here today," was her reply.

A strong willed individual. She considered that she knew two perfect people in her life -- her father and her son. At one time she decided she needed a rose trellis, and did not trust her husband to build it correctly. She ordered the materials and had them delivered without his knowledge. One day, just after Fred C left for work, she told Fred R (her son) that she had a job for him. He built the trellis, under Dae's supervision, and it was done by the time dad (Fred C) got home.

Cremated and remains put into a family niche in Rosehill Crematory and Cemetery, Route 25, Linden, NJ.
