DEATH of Mr L.H. CUMBERBATCH.-It is with much regret that we announce the death of Mr. L.H. Cumberbatch, which took place quite suddenly, at his residence here, on Monday [30 Nov 1885], the cause of death being apoplexy [stroke]. Deceased, who was 58 years of age, for a lengthened period was the Deputy Surveyor of the New Forest, and he resigned that appointment in consequence of failing health, being succeeded by the Hon. Gerald Lascelles. Although then officially severed from the New Forest Mr. Cumberbatch did not fail to evince an interest in it and its inhabitants, and his continued residence within it was hailed with a great deal of satisfaction. Deceased was very fond of hunting, and in the midst of official and other duties he yet found time to assist in the work of the parish, being for several years one of the churchwardens, while many will remember the brilliant gatherings at the Queen's House during Mr. Cumberbatch's occupancy in aid of laudable objects, charitable and otherwise. Mr. Cumberbatch was one of the earliest supporters of the Volunteer movement when it originated in this country, and for several years held a commission in the Lyndhurst Rifle Corps, being in command of the company during the latter portion of his connection with it. Deceased was highly esteemed and respected by all classes; the poor have lost in him a generous sympathiser and friend, and the news of his death has been received with a great deal of regret throughout the New Forest district, while much sympathy is felt for the members of his family in the sudden affliction which has been cast upon them.
Theres a plaque within the church, on the north wall of the north aisle, that was placed in memory of Lawrence Henry Cumberbatch and his wife, Hattie Cumberbatch with the dates of their death.
There is also a plaque with Harriet Cumberbatch's name listed, for giving the alter rails in the church, along with other names.

Laurence married Harriet Anne Bowden Smith 1 Jun 1854, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, England. Harriet (daughter of Nathaniel Bowden Smith, Esquire) was born Cal 1824, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, England; died 14 Mar 1877, Lyndhurst, Hampshire, England. [Group Sheet]

Abraham Parry's grandfather was also a Senior Member of His Majesty's Council of Barbados. Members of the Barbados legaslative Assembly were entitled to be called "Esquire".
"The local importance of these titles is indicated by the fact that members of the Assembly and judges by custom might use four horses to their coaches while members of the Council drove a team of six." (Genealogists Magazine March 1974, Vol.17 No. 9 p.494).
