    "William W. Furlong has been back in town after an absence of ten years. He spent the last year in Italy as an ambulance drive and witnessed many stirring scenes on the Austro-Italian battle front. Furlong left New York as a member of the crew of a freighter bound for Italy and upon arriving in port he learned that the ship would remain there two months. Being an expert machinist and automobile drive he enlisted as an ambulance driver."

    Obituary - William W. Furlong- On Tuesday a military funeral was held for William W. Furlong who died on Saturday in the Soldiers' Home, at Hampton, Va., as a result of complications sustained in the World War. The funeral was held under the direction of Patchogue Post. Rejected by the American Army, Furlong enlisted and served under the Italian colors, later joining the American forces. The services were held from the home of Mrs. E.H. Terry, of East Main Street, Patchogue.

    Daughter of Samuel Overton and Elizabeth Clark, wife of William Francis Furlong, whom she married on April 26, 1847, and mother of Isadora Evanda, William E., Alonzo Mortimer, Samuel Francis and Charlotte Elizabeth Furlong.
    Charlotte was widowed by 1859, when her husband, William died, on February 8, 1859, according to the US Sons of the American Revolution application filed in 1945 by Edward Fowler Case (son of Edward Percy Case and Florence Elizabeth Fowler). His place of interment is unknown, they may have been living in New York, as they were shown living in the Thirteenth Ward, New York on the 1850 census. William was shown as a painter, age 32.
    In 1860, Charlotte was still in New York, a tailoress, with children William E., Alonzo, Isadora, and Sarah E. and living with them was Anna Overton, also a tailoress.
    In 1870, now living in Brooklyn, Charlotte was shown "keeping house" while her son, William, worked in a printing office. Isadora and Elizabeth were attending school.
    In 1880, still in Brooklyn, Charlotte keeping house, son William was a shoe fitter, daughter in law Maria and grandson William W. stayed home. Boarding with them was Charity Overton, age 68.
