Susan Eleanor LaDue Kennedy passed away in her sleep in Crystal River, Florida on 8 July 2021 at the age of 91 years.
She was born in Poughkeepsie, New York at the beginning of The Depression on 29 September, 1929. Her father, George I. LaDue, was a commercial artist who was employed through the Depression and while supporting his family of five bought groceries for friends and fellow artists.
While attending a women's college in Maryland, Susan met a senior at the US Naval Academy who would be the love of her life, the man who changed her name to Kennedy, and the father of her five sons. On 5 June 1949 she married Robert W. Kennedy and they stayed married for 54 years until his death on 28 February 2003.
As a Navy family, they lived in Florida, Texas, California, New York, Florida (again), Massachusetts, Virginia, Florida (again), California (again), and Virginia (again).
After a lifetime of frequent moves, the family came to stay here in Crystal River 50 years ago where Susan was a long time member of the Crystal River United Methodist Church, a member of the choir, and helped with the Meals on Wheels program. Later in her life, Susan went back to school, finished her degree in Library Science and worked at Central Florida Community College, later becoming the College of Central Florida Ocala Campus. She also served as librarian at Crystal River United Methodist church.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her siblings, James Joel LaDue and Gladys Elisabeth (LaDue) Kopf, and her son Andrew LaDue Kennedy and his wife Roslyn (Smith) Kennedy.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley LaDue, by for sons, William George Kennedy, James Philip Kennedy, Matthew Robert Kennedy, and David Lester Kennedy, six grandchildren, Robert George Kennedy, Julie Anna Kennedy, Amanda Joy Kennedy, Olivia Dawn Kennedy, and Zachery Grant Kennedy, and Chastity (Smith) Kennedy, and four great grandchildren, Anna Lynn Kennedy, William Francis Kennedy, Patrick Devon Lekus, and Molly Rose Lekus. Susan was short in stature but tall in expectations, a dutiful Navy wife and a strong mother of five boys – a gentle soul with a generous heart. She may have passed on, but she will live in the hearts of her descendants for a long time to come.
