Funeral services were held from the Overton Funeral Home Sunday for Gordon Case, 39, of East Islip. Burial was in Cutchogue Rural Cemetery.
He is survived by his widow Asteria; three daughters, Mary Anne, Ellen and Paula; a son William; his mother Alice; two brothers Sidney and Donald and a sister Joan Hasselbauer.

Asteria M. Case, of Ft. Myers, Fla., died June 3 at the Mattituck home of her daughter Maryann Birmingham. She was 71. Ms. Case was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Lussinpiccolo, Italy. She emigrated to America as a refugee at the end of World War II, moving from Bellmore to Freeport to East Islip. She married Gordon Case, whose family has lived on the North Fork since the 17th century, and together they spent many summers at the local homestead. "She loved it here," said Ms. Birmingham of her mother. Ms. Case had spent the past 20 years living in Ft. Myers, but moved in with her daughter a year ago while seeking treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City. Family members described Ms. Case as the matriarch of the clan, a nurturing friend who drew relatives to her. "She was the center of the family," said her daughter. In addition to Ms. Birmingham, Ms. Case is survived by two more daughters, Ellen, of Ft. Myers, and Paula Price of Cape Coral, Fla.; a son, William, of Miami, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation was June 5 and 6 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Mattituck, Fr. Peter Allen officiating. Ms. Case's seven grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment followed at Cutchogue Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City or East End Hospice.
