PEARCE, HELEN L., 85, a resident of South Seaville, NJ for 40 years, was called home to eternal rest on April 12, 2015. Helen was the beloved wife of the late Emil G. Pearce, devoted mother to sons, Kyle (Beth) and Adam (Jamiee); and daughters, GiGi (Chip), Sherry (Frank), Danna, and Karla (David); cherished Grandma to Kelly, Kristen (Patrick), Nicholas (Emily), Manuel (Roxanna), Michelle (Freddy), Kelsea, Ryan, Evan, Luke, Noah, Mackenzie and Aidan; and beloved great-grandmother to Monica, Wesley and Hunter. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Nicklaus and Helen Zauner and sister Elizabeth Smith. Helen was a devoted and loving aunt and dear friend to many.
Helen was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She graduated from Oswego University in 1951 with a teaching degree. She taught kindergarten until she married Emil Pearce, her husband of 52 years. They started their family in Massapequa, Long Island, before moving to Connecticut, and Florida. They ultimately settled in South Seaville, where they bought and ran the South Seaville Market for many years, now known as the GEM.
Helen never met a stranger; she formed warm and memorable relationships throughout her whole life. While Helen lived in many states, she was a faithful friend who stayed in touch with frequent cards and phone calls. Helen loved to entertain; in fact, the sign that hangs in her kitchen reads, "May this home always be too small to hold all our family and friends".
Helen, despite her long battle with cancer, still enjoyed her martinis and her cat Stella. She faithfully volunteered at the Holy Reedemer Food Bank and St. Casimir Church. Helen also enjoyed being with her friends at Silver Sneakers and Red Hats.
Services will be held at the South Seaville United Methodist Church, 115 Corson Tavern Road, South Seaville on Thursday, April 16th 2015 at 10:00 am (www.southseavilleumc.com).
