"Their homestead was what is today probably the oldest house in East Setauket, NY. It was built in 1670 and located on the Northwest corner of North Country Road and Rune Road."

Ruth Briscoe was the first and only child of Samuel Briscoe and Ruth Smith. Her mother apparently died from complications from childbirth.
Her father a few years later married Abigail Platt who helped in raising her and her half-siblings.

"The American Genealogist and New Haven Genealogical Magazine", Volume XII, p. 157, states that Timothy "was Town Clerk of Brookhaven from 1688 to 1711, and died there between 1741 and 1749. Timothy was also Town Assessor and a Justice from 1716 to 1721. He and his wife, Mary Hawkins, are buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard in Setauket. However, their tombstones can no longer be read."

Nathaniel Brewster settled his family in Setauket in 1665, and he became the first minister of what was then called the First Presbyterian Church, and his ministry there lasted for twenty-five years.
Many of the earlier Brewsters are buried in the Brewster Family Cemetery located in Setauket on Jeffrey Lane, and many of his descendants are buried here in the Presbyterian churchyard.

"The earliest reference to him ... Dec. 8, 1663 .... From this fact he must have been living in Ashford or Setauket for some time but his name does not appear on the earliest lists of inhabitants."

"His home was opposite the intersection of what are now called Christian and Bay Avenues, a grove of trees marking the spot."
