    In 1850, David Bush, aged 17, was shown living in the household of Peter Hookero, aged 25, a foreman, most likely at the lace mill, in Brookhaven, working as a carder, most likely at the lace mill. Also living in the household were Henry Hookero, aged 40, a spinner, Elizabeth Kookero, aged 23, David, Kookero, aged 4, Sarah Kookero, aged 2, an infant Kookero, aged 3 months, Mary Prentiss, aged 20, Abram Cherry, aged 38, a laborer, Elizabeth Cherry, aged 37, Charlotte Jones, aged 14, and Sally Jones, aged 16.
    On October 18, 1861, he enlisted in the NY 12th Inf. at Patchogue, L.I. for a period of three years, mustering in November 6, 1861 with the He was wounded in battle June 27, 1862 and was in the hospital in New York City and in Newark, NJ., and discharged December 10, 1862. He enlisted at Richmond, Queens, under Captain Edwin Rose in June of 1863, stating that he resided in Patchogue, aged 32, a cotton spinner, married, born in New Jersey, wounded at Gaines Mills.
    In 1870, shown as Jacob Bush, David, aged 37, was living in Patchogue, NY with his wife, Sarah, 36, and children, John B., 17, Rachela, 14, Susan M., 12, Abram, 6, Adaline, 2, and Minnie A. Bush, aged 1 month.
    On September 13, 1879, his daughter, Minnie A. Kemp, filed for pension benefits, claiming invalid status, and again on March 7, 1891, claiming minor status.
    In 1880, David Bush, aged 55, married, could be found living in Brookhaven, with children Abram, Addie and Minnie, working as a bayman. His wife, Sarah, wasn't shown on the census, but living next door was Samuel Jones, aged 84.
    David died on February 12, 1885 at St. Vincents Hospital, Westchester County, New York at the age of 52 years.
