Bertha Patterson Schweider, 71 a Carey native, died April 23 at Parkview Hospital, Idaho Fall, following a sudden illness.
She was born Aug 7, 1912, a daughter of a pioneer Carey family, and was reared and schooled there. She attended Southern Idaho College of Education at Albion, and later received her bachelor of arts degree from Brigham Young University through special arrangement at Ricks College

She taught first in Carey, and then went to Marysville for a time before signing a contract with the school at Iona. She retired from teaching at age of 65, after a career of 32 years as a teacher.
At Iona she met and, on December 1936 was married to Phillip Schweider, a dry farmer in that area. The couple were both very active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In addition to her husband of Iona, she is survived by two sons, Jack and Boyd Schweider and their 13 children, all of Iona. She also is survived by three sisters, Myrl Carlson, Vera Adamson, and Emily Olson, all Carey: and by three brothers, Mark Patterson, Bellevue, Don Patterson Carey and Wilford (Bill) Patterson St. George, Utah, All her family will attend her services on Friday April 27, at the Iona LDS church, Interment will be in the Iona cemetery.
