  Fireplace is now Brookhaven hamlet "During the Civil War Alfred C. enlisted from Fireplace, L. I., in Co.G, 145th N. Y. Vol., as a private, Aug. 28, 1862; transferred to Co. E, 170th N. Y. Vol. He was wounded at Chickamauga, captured, and taken to Libbey Prison. Was in hospital at Brooklyn for wounds received in action March 16, 1865, till his discharge, July 5, 1865, when he received a pension."
