      Mother was an Indian, whose tribe was from an island in the St Lawrence
      River near Cornwall, Ontario, Canada

      The Story of Martintown, A Pioneer Village, a book written by Rhodes CM
      Grant, gives the following information. Janet Small married Louis Jacques,
      son of Joseph Jacques, a land owner in Glengarry (as of 1872). The next
      generation of Jacques were tinsmiths and plumbers. Two of the sons
      served as sailors on Sir David Beatty's flagship, the Lion, at Jutland. One
      was still alive as of 1974. Another son was killed in France during WW I.
      Total of children was 8 girls and 4 boys.

      Smalls are descendants of Peter Small -- a Welsh fur trader in the North-
      West. In 1838 Patrick Small & Nancy Hughes were married in Fort Pitt by
      Father Norbert Blanchet, a well known missionary. The bride's parents
      were James Hughes of the NW Company, and Nan-touche, and Indian from
      west of the Rockies. Their 9 children were all married before they were.
      One daughter, Charlotte, was called the prettiest girl in North America.
