Notes - Died during a snow storm going or coming from Port Jefferson with his wagon and horse. See blizzard of 1888. His farm is now the site of Lake Grove private school. On a 1873 map at Lake Ronkonkma High School a W. Hawkins has a home or inn where the Smith-Haven Mall is by Route 25 and Moriches Road. Lake Grove on the north side of Route 25 on an older map about 1770s the Hawkins inn is on the south side of the road. The area on the south side of Route 25 where my grandmother [Stanley Franklin McGroary] was born on Alonzo Farm, see picture. There is also on the 1873 map J. Hawkins' house on what was called St. James Road and now is Browns Road near Nicol's Road in the Township of Smithtown. This was part of Alonzo farm, see other maps of area in my book. The Davis' had land near this area also, see maps.
