  Born Peter Josef Streit Additional information provided by Find A Grave contributor Joan (Wyatt) Bradley Joseph Street was born in Prussia and came to the United States in 1865. His name was probably spelled Streit or Striet but became Americanized as Street. His sons later used the "Streit" spelling. He first settled in Fort Dodge, Ford County, Kansas and married there to an Irish immigrant named Eliza. Joseph and Eliza's first child, Joseph, was born in 1873 in Kansas, but the family moved soon after his birth to Louisiana, where Joseph's second and third children, Mary and Augustus, were born in 1874 and 1876. The Streit family left Louisiana for Montana Territory about 1877 and settled in what later would be Chouteau County. Their fourth child, Thomas, was born there in Highland Creek about 1878 and two more sons followed in 1881 and 1882 -- Peter and George E. Streit. Eliza apparently apparently died between 1882 and 1894, as Joseph remarried in 1895 to Maggie A. (Elizabeth), another Irish immigrant who was born in 1866. Joseph, age 74, and Elizabeth, age 54, were living with Joseph's son, George, and his family in 1920 in Chouteau, Montana, and Joseph died three years later.
