    • DEATH: Killed in 1776 at the Battle of Ft. Washington. His son, William Jayne V was wounded in the sam battle at Ft. Washington, NY and died on March 1, 1777.

      William was the firstborn child of William and Tabitha Jayne. At least eight more children would follow. He married Sarah Elizabeth Chambers on Jan. 3, 1755 in Brookhaven NY. The couple had at least one child, a son also named William.
      William was killed in action during the Battle of Fort Washington on Nov. 16, 1776 at Washington Heights on Long Island in New York. William's son, William, also fought in this same battle beside his father and was wounded that day. William Jr. died of his wounds a few weeks later. The location of William Sr. or William Jr.'s burial is unknown.
      Of William Jayne Sr.'s five brothers, at least three also served in the Revolutionary War: Timothy, Isaac and David W., who all survived the war.
