Notes - Hawkins Genealogy (2001) calls him a bayman in Brookhaven Town. He is probably the "Baldwin" Gordon that lived on the beach in Blue Point and was an agent for a wrecking company. He also was a Lifesaver.
The obits in the Bklyn Daily Eagle for May 8, 1896 has on May 6 funeral of Baldwin Gordon at the M.E. church of Patchogue. He was 63. He was a beach fisherman and his habitation on the Great South Bay opposite Patchogue has been visited by many Brooklynites who journeyed to the beach during the summer season. Internment was in the old cemetery. A widow and nine children and several grandchildren survive him."

Husband of Alice Smith and father of Legrand, Zephaniah, Frank DeForest, and George Gordon. Husband of Emily J. Smith, (widow of James Harrison Raynor) and father of William V., Albert M., and Theresa V. Gordon. Known as Baldwin Gordon, he lived at Long Cove House.
September 1, 1880 - "Baldwin Gordon lives on the Great South Beach, opposite this place. A short time ago, one of his children was bitten in the finger by a cat that was suffering from disease in its throat. In a day or two the child showed similar symptoms to those of the cat. The another of the family fell ill and finally the mother was taken sick. All three died. Mrs. Gordon was buried yesterday. Physicians pronounced the disease to be malignant diphtheria.

Obituary - Patchogue, L.I., May 6 - The funeral of Baldwin Gordon was held from the M.E. church yesterday afternoon, the Revs. H.W. Paine and A.E. Colton officiating. Mr. Gordon was born in Patchogue sixty-three years ago and was a descendant of one of the oldest families in that village. For a number of years he was a beach fisherman, and his habitation on the Great South Beach opposite Patchogue had been visited by many Broolynites who journeyed to the beach during the summer season. Interment was in the old cemetery. A widow and nine children and several grandchildren survive him.
Jeremiah "Baldwin" Gordon was buried on May 5th, 1896 by C.W. Ruland Funeral Home.

Note: The "old" cemetery in Patchogue at that time would have been The Old Willow Cemetery. Occupants of this site were disinterred in 1901 and moved to Cedar Grove or Waverly Avenue. He is not at Cedar Grove.
