      On 3rd February 1922, 3 weeks before she died, she inherited £200,000in the will of Col. W. Morrison (The Times, Friday, Feb 03, 1922; pg.13; Issue 42946; col B). Her brother Harold Charles Moffatt also received an equivalent sum.

      Mrs. Alice Lucy Cumberbatch, of Park Crescent, Portland Place, W., whodied on Feb. 23, wife of Mr. Alphonso Elkin Cumberbatch, and daughterof the late Mr. George Moffatt, left estate in her own dispositionvalued for Probate at £351,730 gross, with net personalty £351, 549.the duties on the property at this valuation will amount to about£80,000. Mrs. Cumberbatch left:-
      £50,000 to her son Hugh Charles Cumberbatch (unless she had given suchsum to him recently), as each of her daughters had received a similarsum from the Morrison family £1,000 each to the executors; and therest of her fortune to her family. (source: The Times 4 September 1922p.11 Column: e)

      I Alice Lucy Cumberbatch the wife of Alphonso Elkin Cumberbatch ofnumber 11 Park Crescent Portland Place in the County of London herebyrevoke all former testamentary dispositions made by me and declarethis only to be my last will and testament. I appoint my said dearhusband Alphonso Elkin Cumberbatch my son Hugh Charles Cumberbatch myson in law Henry Seymour Moss-Blundell and Rowland Hayes EvansUnfreville Pickering to be the EXECUTORS hereof and the said HughCharles Cumberbatch Henry Seymour Moss-Blundell and Rowland HayesEvans Unfreville Pickering to be Trustees of this my will (and theyand the survivor of them and the executors or administrators of suchsurvivor or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of thismy will are hereinafter referred to as my trustees).
      I bequeath all my jewellery furs and lace to my trustees to dividebetween my three daughters Ailsie Maud Strode, Elizabeth HildaMoss-Blundell and Helen Dorothy Ginman in equal shares taking for thepurpose of such division the valuation made thereof for the purposesof probate of this my will. In exercise of the power for this purposegiven to me by the will of my late father George Moffatt and of everyor any other power enabling me in this behalf I hereby appoint thatfrom and after my death the whole of the income of my legacy under hiswill or of the investments for the time being representing the sameand of all other if any the property in which I have a life interestunder his said will shall be paid to my said husband for his life forhis absolute use and benefit. I give devise and bequeath all the realand personal property to which at my death I shall be entitled for myseparate use or over which I shall have any power of appointment ordisposition by will unto my trustees upon trust that they shall sellcall in and convert the same into money and shall out of the moneysarising thereby and all other monies forming part of my estate pay myfuneral and testamentary expenses and debts and shall stand possessedof the residue thereof and shall divide the same into four equal partsor shares and as to one of such parts or shares upon trust for and Ihereby give the same unto my said son Hugh Charles Cumberbatchabsolutely and as to the three remaining parts or shares upon trust toinvest the same and to pay the income accruing therefrom as to onepart or share to my said daughter Ailsie Maud Strode for life and asto another to my said daughter Elizabeth Hilda Moss-Blundell for lifeand as to the third to my said daughter Helen Dorothy Ginman for lifeand from and after the death of any one of my said daughters (andwhether in my life time or after my decease) then to hold the part orshare so bequeathed to such daughter for life upon trust for such ofthe child or children of such daughter who being sons shall live toattain the age of twenty one years or being daughters shall attainthat age or marry under that age and if any one or more of my saiddaughters shall die whether in my lifetime or after my decease withoutleaving a child or children who shall live to obtain a vested interesthereunder then to Hold the shares of such daughter or daughters upontrust to pay the income arising therefrom unto and equally between thesurvivors of my said three daughters and my said son Hugh CharlesCumberbatch for life but if any of them shall have died leaving issuesuch issue (and if more than one in equal shares) shall be entitled totake the same share or interest which his her or their parent orparents would have taken if such parent or parents had then been alivefrom and after the death of the survivor of then my said son anddaughters then upon trust for and I hereby give the same unto suchchild or children of my said son and daughters who shall have attainedor shall live to attain the age of twenty one years or being daughtersshall have married or shall marry under that age absolutely such childor children taking per stirpes and not per capita and I declare thatnotwithstanding the trust for conversion hereinbefore contained mytrustees shall be at liberty to postpone such sale and conversion andmay at their discretion retain any investments at their then value aspart of the said shares so to be held by them in trust as hereinbeforementioned and I direct that the investments made by me in Strode andCompany Limited shall be taken by my trustees and allocated as part ofthe share to be held by them on trust for my said daughter Ailsie MaudStrode at the price I paid for them in witness whereof I the saidAlice Lucy Cumberbatch have to this my last will and testament set myhand this third day of December one thousand nine hundred and twenty -Alice Lucy Cumberbatch - Signed and declared by the above named AliceLucy Cumberbatch the testatrix as and for her last will and testamentin the presence of us both being present at the same time who at herrequest in her presence and in the presence of each other havehereunto subscribed our names as witnesses - Jas Sullens Clerk toMessrs Pickering & Co. 4 Stone Buildings Lincolns Inn Solrs - E LMarkham Clerk to Messrs Pickering & Co. 4 Stone Buildings Lincolns Inn

      This is a Second Codicil to the last will and testament of me AliceLucy Cumberbatch of number 11 Park Crescent Portland Place in theCounty of London the wife of Alphonso Elkin Cumberbatch and which willis dated the third day of December one thousand nine hundred andtwenty. Whereas my three daughters have each benefited to the extentof fifty thousand pounds from the Morrison family it has been myintention to make my son Hugh Charles Cumberbatch a gift of the sum offifty thousand pounds during my lifetime so as to put him into asimilar position as his sisters Now therefore I declare my will isthat if I shall not have made the aforesaid gift of fifty thousandpounds to my said son in my lifetime then I give and bequeath to himthe sum of fifty thousand pounds free of legacy duty and I declarethat such legacy shall be in addition to all other benefits he mayreceive under my will and in all other respects I confirm my said willand the First Codicil thereto which is dated the sixteenth day ofFebruary one thousand nine hundred and twenty one.
