Mrs. Elizabeth Jayne Adee, a life long and highly esteemed resident of this place, died at the home of her son, David Adee, in Brooklyn, last Friday morning, after a short illness. Private funeral services were held at the house on Saturday evening, and the remains conveyed here Sunday for interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Deceased was born in Port Jefferson about 80 years ago, the daughter of the late Capt. Hamilton Tooker, and married David Adee, who for many years was (p)resident of of the old American Fire Insurance Company, and who died nearly twenty years ago. For some years after her marriage. Mrs. Adee resided in Brooklyn, but since, before the demise of her hasband had occupied their residence at Port Jefferson Station. During her residence in Brooklyn she was active in the work of the old Lee Avenue Congregational Church, and was much interested in the welfare of animals, and was a member of the original society organized in Brooklyn for their humane treatement.
Her noble work and loyal devotion in church and philanthropic labors will remain as a lasting monument to her zeal and her love to aid others. Surviving are a son, David Adee, and a daughter, Mrs. Percy Powell, both of Brooklyn, also a sister, Mrs. Alma Saxton, of Port Jefferson.
