      Son of Thomas Smith and Mary Edwards of Hempstead, husband of Hannah Smith, the daughter of Daniel Smith and Hannah Moger, whom he married on April 26, 1821 in Brookhaven, NY, and father of Carman (married Sarah, married Adelaide Moger), Esther Ann, Mary Esther, Nelson, Charlotte (married Sylvester Gordon), William Wallace and George Henry Smith.

      Husband of Mary, whom he married about 1847 in New York.

      Husband of Jane Appolloni, whom he married on June 12, 1877 in Patchogue, New York.

      In 1850, William Smith, aged 51, was living in Brookhaven, New York, with his wife, Mary Smith, aged 49, and children, William Smith, aged 10, George Smith, aged 8, and Carman Smith, aged 28, a seaman. He was shown to be a ships carpenter.
