  Urias began his career at sea at an early age, and when thirty-five he was skipper of the racing schooner, Atlantic, owned by Wilson Marshall of the New York Yacht Club. This was in 1887. Captain Rhodes never commanded a yacht when defending the ":America's Cup," but was in command of the yacht, "Defender," in the trial races against the "Columbia" in 1899, and skipper of the "Constitution" in trial races with the "Columbia" in 1901; and also skipper of the "Constitution" in trial races against the "Reliance" in 1903."
