Notes - Obituary - Mrs. Mary E. Thurber, widow of Captain Lewis E. Thurber, died suddenly last Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sherman Gerard, on Rider Avenue, Patchogue. Mrs. Thurber was well known in Brooklyn, having entertained for more than twenty years many Brooklynites and their families who spent their summer vacations at her hotel on Bay Avenue. She was a native of Patchogue, born July 25, 1852, and had always lived there. She was full of ambition, and a diligent worker in the Methodist Church and its auxiliary societies of which she was a member. She had been ailing for some time, and on Thursday underwent a difficult operation, the shock of which was too great for her system. Her only daughter, Mrs. Gerard, two grandchildren and several brothers and sisters survive. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at her daughter's home, the Rev. J.W. Maynard officiating.
