"William W. Furlong has been back in town after an absence of ten years. He spent the last year in Italy as an ambulance drive and witnessed many stirring scenes on the Austro-Italian battle front. Furlong left New York as a member of the crew of a freighter bound for Italy and upon arriving in port he learned that the ship would remain there two months. Being an expert machinist and automobile drive he enlisted as an ambulance driver."
