      FRED W. MELTZ
      Porter-Fred William Meltz, 74, died Friday in his home at 1251/2 Franklin.
      Born Ja. 12, 1890 in Crisman, the son of William and Augusta (Rogeman) Meltz, he married Bertha Hiltpold, who preceded him in death in 1955. One son, Robert, also preceded him in death.
      He was a retired car inspector for the EJ and E railroad and was a lifelong resident of the Porter area.
      Surviving are three sons, Raymond, of Hammond, Richard, of Porter, and William of Chesterton; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Blakely, Porter and Mrs. Elsie Waldruff, residing in California; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Bendt, Gary; and 14 grandchildren.
      Funeral services will be Monday in the Carl Edmonds Funeral home, Chesterton, with the Rev. James Thomas, of the Porter Evangelical United Brethren church, officiating. Burial will be in McCool cemetery.
