    • on of Edward Parthe and Ernestine Schultz, father of Arthur E. Parthe.

On March 6, 1869, Arthur Parthe, aged 15, arrived in the U.S. with his mother, Ernestine Parthe, aged 41, of Prussia, and sister, Aurora Parthe, aged 20, aboard the ship Smidt, which sailed from Bremen, Germany, to New York.

Obituary - Arthur Parthe, Sr., died suddenly at his home on Hanover Street last Saturday evening after an illness covering about a year. The past month he has been suffering from acute chronic bronchitis, which was the direct cause of his death. He had been conversing with members of his family up to within a short time before he passed away, the end coming quickly and peaceably.
Mr. Parthe was one of the best known residents of Lindenhurst and throughout Babylon town where he was a prominent figure in both political and social life. He was born in Germany, coming to this country when 18 years of age. Having learned the builder's trade in his native land he followed this vocation for a time in New York City, afterwards settling at College Point, where he remained for about eight years. He then came to West Deer Park, residing there for a few years, and later moved to Lindenhurst, where he had lived for the past twenty-nine years and had always been identified with the advancement of the village. Mr. Parthe was one of the organizers of Liberty Hose company in 1884, remaining an active member until his death, and was its first foreman, which office he held for six years. He also was secretary of the company for fifteen years. The funds of the Fire Department were also under his watchful care for twenty years, he having recently resigned as treasurer of the department on account of his failing health. George Jommes is now the only surviving charter member of Liberty Hose company.
Always a diligent and faithful worker in the Fire department, Mr. Parthe's logical judgment and advice were taken on many vital questions. With his brother, the late Justice Alvin Parthe, who were among the first architects and builders in the place, they erected many of the large buildings in this vicinity, of which are the old local school building, Burns' department store at Babylon, and a large number of stores and residences at Bay Shore. In those days builders made their working plans.
Mr. Parthe had been an active member of Breslau Lodge, I.O.O.F., No. 524, since 1885, acting as its secretary for two years, held the office of noble grand for two terms, and the office of conductor for twenty-five years. He had been a member for the past ten years of Suffolk Encampment, I.O.O.F., No. 147, of Bay Shore, and was a charter member of G.D. Meinen Rebeccah Lodge, No. 198, of Lindenhurst. He was one of the promoters and organizers of Lindenhurst Shoe Company and a member of its board of directors. He was also director and vice-president of the Lindenhurst Manufacturing company. When the first National Bank of Lindenhurst was proposed, he immediately gave his support to the project, and worked hard for its success, being a stockholder and director until his death. Mr. Parthe was also well known in Democratic political circles. He was an inspector of election at intervals covering a period of many years. He was also a member of the Breslau Cornet Band from its organization twenty-five years ago.
Mrs. Parthe died about seventeen years ago, and since then Mr. Parthe has resided at the Hanover residence. Besides one son, Arthur E. Parthe, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Edward Parthe, and one sister, Mrs. Aurora Lindeke, of College Point. Mr. Parthe was 57 years, 9 months and 22 days of age. The funeral services were conducted at Odd Fellows hall on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. M.J. Lorenz, pastor of St. John's, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Lindenhurst cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by the many friends of the deceased, the entire fire department, and delegates from the Odd Fellows lodge, and those of Babylon and Bay Shore, were in the processional which was headed by Wrieth's band. The Odd Fellows also held their burial services at the hall and at the grave.
