- Mattie Solomon Amacher of Augusta, Maine formerly of Cowan passed away Saturday in Maine at the age of 93. She was born on February 27, 1916 in Belvidere, TN to the late Elmer and Lora Couch Solomon. Mattie lived most of her life in Cowan, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert L. Amacher, in 1993, a brother, James Solomon and a granddaughter, Chrisanne Burns.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and her husband Gary Burns of Augusta, Maine, their 2 sons and their wives, 6 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Dixie and her husband John Lowin of Milwaukee, WI and their 2 children, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Mattie was an active member of the Cowan Methodist and Fellowship Churches. For most of her life ,she enjoyed gardening and was famous for her cooking and sewing skills. Most recently, Mattie enjoyed her summers at camp looking at the water, loons, and foliage as well as playing with the dogs.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15, 2011 beginning at 10 AM at the Cowan Fellowship Church with funeral services at 11 AM with Rev. Andy Gay officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester.
