    • Florence Maud Doggett was born on 23 April 1849 at Maidstone Buildings, Borough High Street, Southwark, the daughter of Frederick William Doggett and Jane Lydia Thompson. She was my 2 x great aunt on my mother's side.
      Her marriage to Charles Saner Powell was reported in the London Daily News on 12 January 1877. According to Rosie Rice, her husband Charles Powell had been in China for 5 years and came back to marry Florence.
      Marriage notes: Florence Maud Doggett spinster of Graham Road Hackney daughter of Frederick William Doggett married Charles Saner Powell bachelor gentleman son of Henry Powell MD at the Parish Church of Hackney. Witnesses: Frederick Ernest Doggett, Evelyn Doggett, Emily Jane Powell. They were married by W W Hawkins Officiating Minister, British Chaplain of Foo Chow China.
      They honeymooned in Torquay, returning to Amoy via Liverpool, New York, San Francisco and clipper to Hong Kong. They are in China when all their children are born. She is back in England in 1891 without her husband but presiding over a significant household in Hackney with a Chinese nurse, a cook and a housemaid
      Florence Maud Powell of Hopedene Warwick Road South Holmwood Surrey widow died 4 March 1934 of carcinoma of liver, carcinoma both breasts removed. Death registered by A Tanner son in law causing the body to be buried, The Grey House, Oaklands Avenue, Weybridge, 4 March 1934.Probate of her Will London 11 July 1934 to Norah Jane Hardy widow. Effects £115 15s 6d or about £22,000 at 2007 prices.

      Here is her Will:
      A This is the Last Will and Testament of me Florence Maud Powell of 43 Normandy Avenue Barnet Herts. I appoint my three daughters Florence Gwendoline Owen Norah Jane Hardy and Dorothy Maud Tanner Executors of this my will and I direct them to pay my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses. I bequeath the several legacies specified in the lists of articles attached hereto to the legatees particularly named therein the residue of my estate real and personal I devise and bequeath to my said three daughters equally. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of July 1924.

      My guess is that this copy was typed from original manuscript notes. It is described as Probate Engrossment. Transcription errors could explain the misspelling of Frederick Juler's and Herbert Charles' names.
      Florence was buried with her husband in Hendon Cemetery on 7 March 1934
