- Mr. George Harvey "Poppy" Burdeshaw, 86, a resident of Prattville, Alabama passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019. He was born in Florida to George Grady and Martha (Wilson) Burdeshaw. Throughout his lifetime he has been many things to many people - a U S Marine during the Korean War, police officer in Miami in the 1960s, heavy equipment operator for several decades, long haul truck driver, cook, mechanic, loving son, brother, father and substitute father.
George is survived by his Florida family - daughters, Jackie Burdeshaw and Peggy Farrer (Chris); son, Harvey Lee Burdeshaw (Caroline); brothers, Charles Wayne Burdeshaw, Milton Burdeshaw and Joe Burdeshaw; sister, Shirley Woods; granddaughter, Martha Sue and numerous additional beloved grandchildren and extended family members.
He is also survived by his Alabama family, who knew him best as Poppy - Nancy, Howie, Earl, Nikki, Josh, Christina, Jake, John-Michael, Mary Clara (the "Baby", Landon, Winston and Michael Reid.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack Burdeshaw and the last love of his life, Mary "Edie" Kirby. Services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2:00 at Brookside Funeral Home Chapel, 3360 Brookside Drive, Millbrook, Alabama 36054. Brookside Funeral Home of Millbrook, Alabama directing. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
