    • Died at Eastern Long Island Hospital

Kathrine Young Williamson of Laurel died June 15 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport after a brief illness. She was 86.
She was born July 9, 1924, in Riverhead to Hazel (Griswold) and George Whitfield Young. She graduated from Riverhead High School in 1942 and attended Syracuse University.
She married Zahn Williamson of Jamesport on Feb. 19, 1944; they raised three children in Riverhead and later South Jamesport. In the 1960s Ms. Williamson returned to college and earned a master's degree in education from Adelphi University in Garden City. She became an art teacher and taught kindergarten for many years at Phillips Avenue and Roanoke Avenue elementary schools.
Family members said Ms. Williamson was a loving and optimistic person and a wonderful mother. She was always ready to have fun, they said, and enjoyed being at the beach, taking long walks and visiting with family and friends.
Predeceased in 2008 by her husband of 64 years, Ms. Williamson is survived by her children, Pam Hunt and Bruce, both of Riverhead, and Kathrine, of Laurel, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours took place June 17 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Graveside services were held June 18 at Riverhead Cemetery.
Donations may be made to First Congregational Church of Riverhead.
