Obituary for Doris Catherine [Pool] Mazanek
Doris Mazanek, age 98, of El Cajon passed away on Jan. 30, 2015. Doris was born in 1916 in New York to Charles and Edith Gerard.
She attended schools in San Diego and graduated from San Diego High School in 1934. She met the love of her life Ralph E. Pool while in high school and they were married in 1934.
During Doris’ life she worked for Solar Aircraft during WWII, Hages Ice Cream, and the insurance business. She retired in 1978 after more than 20 years with Industrial Indemnity.
Though she did not play herself, Doris’ was active in the Reed Block accordion group, occasionally accompanying the group on various rhythm instruments.
Her parents, first husband Ralph E. Pool, second husband Frank Mazanek, and long time friend and companion Gordon Nyhus preceded Doris in death.
Survivors include long time family friends (she called them “her boys”), Stephen Hunter and wife Georgia of Santa Maria, CA, Ralph Hunter, Jr. of San Diego, CA, Scot Hunter of Phoenix, AZ.
Per her request, cremation and private interment has taken place at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her name.
Their parents were close friends with Ralph and Doris Poole; like "second parents"
