The beloved grandmother of Sarah and Rebecca Williams, mother of Elizabeth Ebersole, and dear wife of Richard L. Papiernik for 34 years, Elaine (Pearce) Papiernik, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, died suddenly on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at her daughter’s home in York Springs, PA. Elaine was born on Monday, April 17, 1944 in East Meadow, NY to the late John Henry Pearce and I. Elizabeth (White) Pearce.
In addition to her husband, daughter, and granddaughters, Elaine is survived by her sister, Patricia Smith of Del Rey, CA; and her brother, J. Kendall Pearce and his wife, Elizabeth, of Murphy, NC.
Elaine was a native of Hicksville, NY and a graduate of Hicksville High School as part of the class of 1962. She attended Gettysburg College and received her degree in Biology from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. Elaine also completed her post-graduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained credentials as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist. She was a manager of employee benefits at New York based Citigroup and several of its predecessor corporations for 18 years. Previously, Elaine was the assistant director of the Visiting Nurse Association of Central PA in Harrisburg. She also served as secretary of the Historical Society of Dauphin County. Elaine was an avid gardener and was particularly proud of her lemon tree and collection of orchids and cacti. Despite her success in the New York corporate world, she said that, “the best job I ever had was caring for my twin granddaughters.”
All are welcome to join Elaine’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Elaine’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Silver Spring Diner, 6520 Carlisle Pike #260, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, immediately following the service. Cremation was private.
