!Emigrated on the ship "CHARLES. Sailed from Barnstaple (Devonshire)
April 10 (1632) and arrived June 5 at Boston, `with about twenty
passengers, all safe and in health' (Winthrop, Journal, vol I, p 81). The
(Allyn family) probably came in this ship, as they came this year.."

!Matthew Allyn was one of the original founders of Hartford CT, his name
being inscribed on the East Side, 5th from the top, of the Founder's
Monument, Hartford, CT. The map copied in "Geneology of the Descendents
of Thomas Lord" pg 6, "Hartford in 1640" shows Matthew Allyn's land on
the NW corner of platted Hartford.
