!William Whiting was one of the Founders of the City of Hartford, CT. His
name is enscribed on the North side of the Founders monument, 8th from
the top. He was assigned an original (1640) tract of land bordering the
South Meadow. The lot number is illegible on the copy I possess but under
his name is the appelation "Merchant". D. McArthur (Source used

!Waterfield, Peter Whiting. Whiting genealogy. Says William came from
Boxford, Suffolk, England in 1633. His line worked their way up the
Conn. Valley into Springfield, Holyoke and Western Mass.

Hinman, R.R. A Catalogue of the names of the first Puritan settlers of
the Colony of Connecticut... c1968, p. 97 lists many of the positions he
held and things he did in Hartford. Lists his children. Does NOT list a
child born after his death. Joseph was probably the child another source
lists as being born after his death because Joseph was provided for by a
      codicil.
William had a sister, Wiggins, who had children.
