    • achieved LRCS (Edin) "Licenciate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh" It was obtained by viva voce examination after compulsory courses in anatomy and physick. It was a very basic qualification but was one of the requirements for obtaining a warrant as Assistant Surgeon in the Royal Navy." according to Malcolm H. Walker-Kinnear.

      "He made 7 voyages as Surgeon Superintendant on Convict ships to Australia and Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) between 183 And 1849."
