Gelston G. Swezey owned a store on South Ocean Avenue, Patchogue around 1898 and was an outlet store for the products of his gristmill on Swan Lake. In later years the store relocated to Terry Street in Patchogue. The gristmill, formerly the Mott mill, became Swezey's mill, and was purchased by him from his brother, Nathaniel Swezey
Obituary - Gelston G. Swezey, aged 63, who for many years has operated the grist mill on the South Country Road in East Patchogue, was found dead by his son, Nat, at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, in a barn at the rear of his residence on Main Street. Mr. Swezey failed to return to the house after going out to do some chores and his son went to investigate. He had been dead some time when he was found. Coroner Moore stated that the cause of death was apoplexy. Besides a widow, Mr. Swezey leaves two sons, John R. Swezey, and Nat Swezey, and four daughters, Mrs. George Utz, Mrs. William Tappen, Miss Marie Swezey and Miss Elizabeth Swezey, all of Patchogue.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Jacob Probst officiating. Mr. Swezey was a member of several fraternal orders, including the Foresters, the Shepherds of America and a local lodge at Blue Point. He is also survived by two brothers, N.O. Swezey and Richard E. Swezey, both of Patchogue.
