      On Broadway, he appeared in "The Luck of MacGregor" (1908). He appeared in and directed films from the 1900s-10s. He directed "The Immortal Alamo" (1911), "Soldiers of Fortune"(1914), and "I Accuse" (1916). He later appeared in films in the 1960s – "Sunrise at Campobello" (1960) and "The Miracle Worker"(1962). Nicknamed "Silent Bill" due to his use of directing without a megaphone.
