Notes |
- Mrs. Maria D. Kaler, widow of William Kaler, for many years a resident of Sayville, died early on Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howell Stevens in Westhampton Beach where she had been making her home for some time. Mrs. Kaler died very suddenly, being found dead in bed by her daughter.
She was born in Moriches 83 years ago, but lived here for many years, remaining some time after the death of her husband, William Kaler, a Civil Warer veteran with a wonderful service record.
She is survived by three sons, five daughters, and by 35 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, also by two brothers and a sister. The sons are Oscar, Ernest, and Monroe Kaler, and her daughters Mrs. Howell Stevens, Mrs. Charles Miller, Mrs. William Raynor, Mrs. Nellie Green, and Mrs. Ethel Seaman. Her sister is Mrs. Cora Gamage, of Center Moriches, and her brothers Syms Murdock and Daniel Murdock of this village.
Interment took place at two o'clock on Wednesday afternoon beside the body of her husband in St. Ann's Cemetery. In her many years in Sayville, she gathered about her a wide circle of friends who sincerely regret her passing. Mrs. Kaler celebrated her birthday only a week before her death in the home of her sister, Mr. Gamage, in Center Moriches, and on Monday was to have gone to Greenport to visit Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Morris.
