    Obituary - Joseph E. Gerard, 78, of 355 Smith Road, Shirley, died suddenly at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Born in Patchogue, he had lived in Shirley 14 years and was active as a contractor.

    He was the founder of South Shore Contracting and Dredging Corporation and South Shore Motor Transportation Company, both of Patchogue, and the Leja Beach Ferry Company.

    He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frances Matteson of Center Moriches; a son, Joseph S. Gerard of Brookhaven, and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Ruland Funeral Home, the Rev. Frederick I. Smith, pastor of the Bellport Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Bellport.

    Obituary - Lawrence P. Gerard, aged 44 years, of 171 Bay Avenue, Patchogue, died suddenly Tuesday at Hempstead where he was connected with the Roosevelt Aviation School. Born in Patchogue, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Gerard and for the past two years had been associated with the Roosevelt School.

    He leaves his wife, Mrs. Marjorie Gerard, a sister, Mrs. Madeline Lightbody, both of Patchogue, and a brother, Joseph E. Gerard of Bellport.

    The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, the Rev. Harry S. Crossett, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating and interment will be made in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
