    Born at Southampton Hospital

1 Apr 1930 US Census residing with mother and her parents

My father told me before he died that their divorce was his fault. He said that he went down street for butter one day and didn't come back for 2 or 3 weeks.
We lived with my mother's parents in East Moriches when very young. I remember my mother studying for the entrance test to get a job with the Telephone Company as an operator. This was during the depths of the depression. She was sucessful and worked at the Railroad Ave. telephone office in Center Moriches. We had no car so we moved to a small house (now gone) just north of the office. She usually worked split shifts. I don't know if the others did or not. One reason was her extremely slow heart beat due to having Rhuematic Fever as a youngster. She needed to take a rest in the middle of the day. She kept in touch with me in the evening by telephone. We also had a sitter part of the time for me. (Mona Brown).
She believed in the curative powers of the sun and spent as much time in the sun as possible. Being somewhat dark complected, she didn't ever seem to burn, however I burned. She had brown hair and I,(son Van) was reddish blonde.
A Post Card dated Feb., 11 1913 was mailed by "Dorothy" from Speonk showing the East Moriches M.E. church. It was addressed to Miss Beatrice Terry, Corando, Florida. (Corando today is an area of New Syrma Beach, Fl.)She was 10 years old.
