Obituary - Mrs. Harriet Piermann, 68 years old, a lifelong resident of this area, died Tuesday at her home un Hulse Street, Bellport. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p. m. yesterday at the Bellport Methodist Chursh, with a former pastor, the Rev. Harold G. Sabin of Oceanside, officiating. Interment followed in Woodland Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, George E. Hermann; two daughters, Mrs. Sadie M. Penney and Mrs. Elizabeth MacCauley; a son, Stanley B. Piermann; a sister, Mrs. Lottie Tuthill, of Bellport; three brothers, Winfield, Arthur, and Everett Piermann; and four grandchildren.

Obituary - Arthur T. Brown, a pioneer in newspaper production and employee of The Herald for half a century until his last year, is dead at 78. Known a "Pop," Mr. Brown joined The Herald in 1912, when it was a fledgling newspaper of eight pages and a thousand readers. At the time of his retirement, September 1, 1962, Mr. Brown, a stereotype, had worked for The Herald longer than any other person. "I just took the job for a week to help out," he once said. Mr. Brown, of 313 SW 10th Street, died Sunday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at King Funeral Home. "Pop" was a plasterer when he moved to Miami from Bellport, N.Y. at the age of 27. But he took a $15-a-week job making flat casts for the old press that turned out one edition a day. As The Herald grew bigger, Mr. Brown forgot about plastering. He became foreman of the stereotype shop and watched it grow from a three-man crew to the 39-man operation it is today. Almost as well-known around The Herald building was "Pop's" wife, Edith, who survives him. After the death of their only child, a 29-year-old son, she began accompanying him to work. She would wait in the stereotype department, in any chair that happened to be handy, until his workday was done. Herald staff members became accustomed to seeing the couple enter the old Miami Avenue building at 5:30 p.m. and leave at 2:30 a.m. when the final editions of the paper were on the street. "I wouldn't let her stay home alone," Mr. Brown once explained. Naturally enough, his wife was soon known as "Mom" to other Herald employees. "Pop" never made the move to The Herald's multimillion dollar plant on Biscayne Bay, the structure his 50 years of work had helped to build. Failing health forced his retirement, reluctantly, seven months before The Herald moved. "He was a faithful employee," said Herald Business Manager, Arthur Gucker. "He worked like a trooper until the time he retired." "He was a pioneer in newspaper methods who saw and helped them develop into the modern methods they are today," Gucker added. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by two brothers, Everett S. and Winfield B.; and a sister, Mrs. Lottie Tuttle, all of Bellport. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church.

Obituary - Oliver H. Brown Drowned. Oliver H. Brown of Bellport, a yacht sailor who had charge of Oliver Robinson's packet, operating between Bellport and points on the Great South Beach, was drowned near the shore at the foot of Bellport avenue, Saturday evening in water not more than four foot deep. Mr. Drown brought the boat to her moorings and was left alone aboard her. Some time afterward an alarm was caused by his failure to reach his home, and a search was made. He was not aboard the boat and finally the waters were dragged, and his body was found. He had evidently fallen and struck his head somehow, stunning him so he was powerless to save himself. There was a severe contusion on the head. He was 28 years old and Ieaves a wife and two children.

Only one baby was expected, but identical twins were delivered by their father, Everett. Word quickly spread around town and additional clothes were gathered for the family. The twins were close and grew up in Bellport, helping at the family garage and enjoying Great South Bay and the local outdoor area
When Dick was a teenager he became a commercial fisherman getting up at 4:00 AM to lay his nets. He received permission from the principal to leave high school in the afternoon to gather his nets and to get the fish ready for market. When he finished high school in 1947, his father insisted that he join the family business, Brown's Garage, where he worked for over fifty years. After retiring from the garage he and his wife spent the summers at home in Brookhaven, NY and their winters in Florida. They began to enjoy extensive traveling, even volunteering for a travel agency, allowing them to organize and experience many cruises around the world. The last few years Richard and Alyce resided in Wentworth, NH.
Richard is survived by his wife, Alyce, his sons, Clifford (Danville, CA), Dennis (El Cajon, CA), Duane (Wentworth, NH), and daughter Aimee (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) and their families, including eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia and his granddaughter, Meagan.
