    IRA MARKHAM PASSES AWAY

    SPANISH FORK--Ira M. Markham, 61, lifelong resident and well-known resident of the Spanish Fork District, died Thursday night at his home, following an illness of ten days from heart trouble. He was born in Spanish Fork, December 20, 1874. He was the son of Stephen and Mary Curtis Markham.

    His parents were among the first settlers of the Spanish Fork district. He followed the occupation of farming and stockraising all his life. He married Miss Rose Patterson in 1901. They continued to make their home in Laland Ward where he took an active part in both the civic and religious work of the community. He filled a two-year mission to the Northern States in 1914 to 1916. He was a faithful Latter-Day Saint and a member of the Quorum of Seventies.

    He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Agnes Wood, Mrs. Helen Wilson, Miss Mae Markham, all of Spanish Fork; Ira J. Markham, New York City; Don C Markham, California; three sisters, Mrs. Elias Bona, Benjamin; Mrs. Margaret Morgan, Spanish Fork and Mrs. Charles Crow, Salt Lake City. He is survived also by seven grandchildren.

    Funerals services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Leland Ward Chapel, with Bishop Grant Stark in charge. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson Mortuary.

    SPANISH FORK--Funeral services for Ira M. Markham, 61, well-known farmer and stock raiser of this district, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Leland Ward Chapel with Bishop Grant Stark conducting.

    Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Mr. Markham was born in Spanish Fork, December 20, 1874. He was the son of Stephen and Mary Curtis Markham. He received his education in the schools of Spanish Fork, December 20, 1874. He was the son of Stephen and Mary Curtis Markham.

    SPANISH FORK--Ira Markham, 61, Spanish Fork, farmer, died Wednesday at the family home of heart disease.

    Mr. Markham was born at Spanish Fork, December 20, 1873, a son of Stephen and mary Curtis Markham.

    He is survived by his widow, Rose Patterson Markham; four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Wood, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Ina Mangum, Provo and Miss Mae Markham, Spanish Fork; two sons, Ira J. Markham, New York City and Don Markham, California; seven grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Elsa Bona, Benjamin; Mrs. Margaret Morgan and Mrs. Julia Crow, Salt Lake City.

    Funeral services are pending word from Ira J. Markham, a son in New York City.

    Dr. Don C. Markham who received his degree in dental surgery from the University of Southern California on June 7 is visiting this week with his brother, Ira J. Markham, an instructor at Weber College, who lives at 1730 Jackson.

    Dr. Markham is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He received the Atwater Gold Plaque Award for excellence in operative techniques and graduated as an honor student with an average of 19 per cent.

    TOP SCOUTER ANTELOPE AWARD MADE

    Dr. Don C. Markham, Long Beach, California and a native of Utah County, was one of the six men who were awarded the Silver Antelope Award by Region 12 of the Boy Scouts of America at the recent regional meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.

    The Silver Antelope Regional Award is the second highest in the nation given to scouters, being surpassed only by the Silver Buffalo which is given on a national basis.

    Dr. Markham, a Long Beach dentist, has long been active in scouting and was one of two Utahns who received the highest recognition that can be given a scouter by a scout region. The other Utahn is Edwin S. Baggs, Ogden, president of Wasatch Oil Company.

    Dr. Markham is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira M. Markham of Spanish Fork. He is a graduate of Spanish Fork High School, BYU and University of Southern California College of Dentistry, where he was graduated as Phi Beta Kappa.

    He has been actived in scouting for many years. He has served as a scoutmaster, on council and regional levels and as chairman of the Regional Explorer Conference.

    Dr. Markham is an active member of the LDS Church and is also the advisor to an explorer post in dentistry.

    ROY - Ira Joseph Markham, 84, church, business and community leader, died Jan. 24, 1989, of Parkinson's disease in an Ogden hospital.

    He was founder of the Hill Cumorah Pageant, participating in the first production in 1937.He handled trusts and estate planning at Central Hanover Bank & Trust, New York City, and later became a systems and procedures designer for U.S. Steel. He retired from the Pittsburg, Calif., office after 25 years service.

    In 1980, Mr. Markham received a Brigham Young University Emeritus Club award.

    He was a high councilor in four stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the church's first bishop in Concord, Calif.

    For three years, he was a member of the Bay Area Writing Committee, which prepared priesthood lesson manuals for the church.

    Mr. Markham served in the Canadian Mission in the mid-1920s, was a high priest in the Roy 11th Ward, and taught business and accounting at what was then Weber College beginning in 1939.

    He was born Feb. 14, 1904, in Spanish Fork, to Ira M. and Rose Patterson Markham. He attended Spanish Fork schools, graduated from Spanish Fork High School, received a bachelor's degree in accounting and business from BYU and a master of business administration degree from New York University.

    Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Roy 11th Ward, 2175 W. 4250 South. Friends may call at Larkin & Sons Mortuary, Adams Avenue at 24th Street, Ogden, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and at the ward chapel until 10:45 a.m. Saturday

    GETS OFFER OF DIRECTOR POST

    Ira J. Markham, instructor in the department of business administration at Weber Colege, has been offered the post of department director for Utah by Joseph DeBrum of the department of business education, National Education Association.

    Markham participated in the association convention in San Francisco July 3 to 6 inclusive, directing round table discussions during departmental sessions.

    In offering the post, DeBrum wrote Markham as follows:

    "Because of the most satisfactory manner in which you handled your convention responsibilities, you are my No. 1 choice for doing department director for Utah."

    The position entails direction of membership activities in the state, serving as special reporter for the publication, "National Business News," and making of suggestions to the president and executive committee on the department service program. As department director, Markham will also be asked to cooperate with other officers in planning the 1940 convention. Markham has indicated he will accept the appointment.
