MISSOULA - Dorothy Teresa LaSalle Anderson was called home by the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2005. She died peacefully of natural causes with her family by her side. Dorothy Teresa LaSalle was born March 19, 1904, in Havre to Leon and Mary Jane (Bonneau) LaSalle.
Dorothy was raised on a range in the Bear Paw Mountains in Havre. She was baptized at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre on April 17, 1904. She was very strong in her faith and prayed the rosary every day.
Dorothy raised her nine children on her own during the Depression. She moved to Missoula from Seeley Lake in the early '40s. She worked at St. Patrick Hospital and Legendary Lodge to support her family. During later years, she lived and worked at various jobs, which included caring for several of her grandchildren, near the homes of some of her children. The past three years she has resided at The Village Assisted Living Center in Missoula.
Dorothy was a talented seamstress, cook and caregiver. She lived her life honestly, loved and cared for her family and above all believed in the Lord. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Last year, she was honored by her children and their families on her 100th birthday. Dorothy spent an enjoyable day surrounded by her children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as some very old friends.
Dorothy is survived by eight of her nine children: sons, Leon Russell (Bud) of Seeley Lake, Larry (Patsy) Anderson of Ronan, Robert Anderson of Lolo, Darold Anderson of Florence; and daughters, Georgina (Jean) and husband Don King of Pasadena, Calif., Lorena (Jeri) and her husband Marv Formo of Helena, Helen and husband Alex Ghillany of Tacoma, Wash., Delia (Sharon) Magee and her husband Merle of Cut Bank. Dorothy is also survived by her son-in-law, Dean Wilcox of Florence, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchidren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Wilcox; siblings, William, Patrick and Adolph LaSalle, Georgia (William) Felton, Leona (Frank) Ward, twins Leona Rose and Clara Agnes; and parents, Leon and Mary Jane LaSalle as well as several grandchildren.
The family is very thankful for the loving care their mother received at The Village and Community Medical Center during her final days.
A funeral Mass for Dorothy will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Missoula.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of their choice.
Cremation was handled by Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies.
