Eliza was born about 1845-1847 in Ireland. She settled in Kansas and later married there about 1872 to Joseph Streit, an immigrant from Prussia, who had come to America in 1865.
Eliza and Joseph had their first son, Joseph Streit, in Ft. Dodge, Ford County, Kansas in 1873. The moved to Louisiana shortly after this birth and had their next two children, Mary and Augustus, there in 1874 and 1876. Joseph moved his family to Montana Territory about 1877, and their next child, Thomas, was born there in what would become Highland Creek, Chouteau County, where they had two more sons, Peter and George.
Eliza died in 1890 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Ft. Benton, Chouteau, Montana. Joseph reared the boys alone until he remarried in 1895 to Maggie Elizabeth, an Irish immigrant born in 1866. When Joseph died in 1923, he was buried in Upper Highwood Cemetery.
