Ocean Takes Lives of Two in Single Day. Two men lost their lives in the surf at Jacksonville Beach yesterday. ....John C. Abersold, 50, of Arlington died about 5:45 when caught in a run-out near Twentieth Avenue North. Abersold's wife seeing her husband being swept to sea gave the alarm and the Jacksonville Beach Patrol responded quickly, taking the man from the water. Artificial respiration and a resuscitator from Neptune Beach were used upon Abersold simultaneously for an hour at the scene of the tragedy. Efforts to revive him were continued at the Beach Patrol station but he was pronounced dead at 7 P.M. The Abersolds were swimming 12 blocks from the nearest Jacksonville Beach life guard station and three blocks from the nearest Neptune Beach guarded area. ....Abersold's funeral arrangements will be announced by Estes-Krauss Funeral Home. Surviving are three daughters, Constance Keyes, Mrs. Dick (Colleen) McNamara and Mrs. Bernard (Jean) Blydenburgh; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A son, Donald, and two daughters, Bertrice Keyes and Julia McCollum, died before her. Born in Glasglow, Scotland, on Dec. 31, 1885, a daughter of Donald and Helen Chambers Campbell, she married Bert R. Keyes on Dec. 25, 1906. He died Aug. 26, 1926. 16173	Wayne Pope Wayne Pope 3rd Avenue Master Barber NORTH SALT LAKE- Wayne LaVel Pope, 65, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away from the debilitating effects of pancreatic cancer, his family at his side, on May l, 2004. He was born on August 24, 1938 in Vernal, Utah. He is survived by his eternal companion and wife, Carol, and children, Dan (Diane), Mike (Debbie), Ron (Maree), Cheryl (Layne) Packer, Gary (Emily); his 17 grandchildren; and his siblings, Agnes (Calvert) Lewis, Valda (Fred) Dietrich, Reed (Lorna) Durfee, Phillip (Jean), Loraine (Ed) Crow, Larry (Carol), Ruby (Gerard) Regnier, Grant (Sharlett) Durfee, Carolyn (Raymond) Ray, Rose (Jerry) Owens, Joann Palmer, Russell (Diane), Ilene (Steve) Rands, Mark (Peggy), Ross (Susan) and Will (Linda) Marda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Edna Pope. Wayne graduated from Uintah High School in 1956 where he was Senior Class President and a star basketball player. He married his sweetheart, Carol Hulburt, in the Salt Lake Temple, on June 3, 1957. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as High Priest Group Leader, Bountiful Temple worker and in many other Church capacities. He loved his family, the Lord and his Church with all his heart. He worked hard every day, so that his children could have a better life. He enjoyed participating in and watching sports as well as venturing out of town on frequent camping, hunting and fishing trips, and many of the other valuable activities that gave his family precious time together; building a foundation of experiences that will remain with them forever. Wayne was a Master Barber, cutting hair for 45 years, most of them on 3rd Avenue at his own Wayne's Barber Shop. His clients loved him as much for his classic barbering as for his conversation. He cut the hair of governors, mayors, legislators, university presidents, Church general authorities and even TV personalities; but more importantly, he cut the hair of thousands of individuals he called friends. Having just retired, he and Carol traveled to the East coast, visiting as many of the Church, historical and tourist sites that they could. They were called to serve a Church Mission as Temple workers in Fiji. It was while they served with all of their hearts that Wayne became very ill and returned home for his last months of life. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7th, 2 p.m., at the LDS Church, 3707 S. 800 W., Bountiful. 16175	WB LISCUM, 73, PAST PRESIDENT OF CM SCH BD William B Liscum, 73, a past president of the Board of Education of School District 33 on which he served from the early 1920's to 1946, and lifelong resident of Center Moriches, died Sunday at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Born October 21, 1888, he was a retired electrical contractor. Mr Liscum also served as a life member of the Center Moriches Fire Department and as a director of the Center Moriches Bank. He is survived by his wife Belle of Center Moriches; one son Charles of Morris Plains NJ; one daughter Mrs Walter McNaney of Boston, Mass, and one grandchild. Center Moriches Fire Department services were held Tuesday at Sinnickson's Moriches Funeral Home. Funeral services were held yesterday, the Rev William Waters officiating. 16179	Weldon Daines passed away at age eighty-three on August 24, 2014 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah due to complications from cancer. Weldon was born March 27, 1931 in Union, Utah to Oliver and Lila (Barfuss) Daines. Weldon grew up in Logan, Utah, then Firth, Idaho, graduating from Firth High in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, then served an LDS mission in the North Central States. Weldon met Barbara Markham while attending Brigham Young University. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in December 1957. Weldon received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, worked at Hercules, and was an adjunct professor at the University of Utah. He was active in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). After retiring, Weldon and Barbara taught English to college students in Jilin, China, served a mission in West Virginia, and served in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, the Salt Lake Area Food Banks, the Guadalupe Center, and the Salt Lake City Center Mission. In May 2000, Barbara passed away. Weldon later met and married Utanah Drumm in December 2002. Shortly after, Weldon and Utanah served a mission in Connecticut and a service mission at the Sandy Bishop's Storehouse; after their mission, they lived in Utah until his death. Weldon led an honorable life dedicated to faith and family. He will be greatly missed. Weldon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara (Markham) Daines; his brother, ElRay; and his sister, LuJuana (Daines) Baker. Weldon is survived by his wife, Utanah (Drumm) Daines; and his siblings, Donald (Rachel), Jay (Lucy), Vaughn (Sharon), Norman, and Val Rhodes. Additionally, Weldon is survived by his children, Richard, Anne (Warren) Cordes, Russell (Darcey), and John (Sonja); and his seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife's children, Deanna (Rudy) Valderrama, Jacquie (Danny) Van Meter, and Debi (Richard) Morin; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Riverview Chapel, 288 West River Chapel Road (11620 South), Draper.
